The Inspiration Behind the Story-Melissa Storm Shares

July 25, 2017

Have you ever wondered what inspires an author to write a book? The motivation behind a particular plot? What he or she has in mind as they develop and name their characters? How was the book title chosen?

In celebration of the launch of her new book entitled, Love's Prophet, author Melissa Storm shares the driving forces that led to the creation of this, her third book in her First Church Christian Romance Series.

Can a little girl be the messenger of God's love?

For Melissa Storm, Love's Prophet "involves much more than just another sweet romance. It includes a dying mother’s special wish and a seven-year-old girl’s secret mission to be her Daddy’s angel. It’s about second chances and learning to love again. It’s about finding faith when it seems as if all is lost, and mostly it’s about love—romantic love, friendships, the love a parent feels for his child, and the love these characters feel for the God who hasn’t given up on them yet."

In writing this book, Melissa shares that as she wrote Love's Prophet, she experienced the full gamut of emotions. It's so fascinating to learn how much of a writer's personal life and experiences can shape their storyline, plot and characters.

  • Molly Sue, the young girl who becomes the Angel for her father upon her dying mother's request, makes Melissa smile at her innocence, especially considering many of her interests and quirks were based off those of her daughter, Phoenix Ruby Storm.

  • Melissa admits that she swooned as Jennifer and Liam (the central characters in Love's Prophet) found their way to each other and swooned when her husband, Falcon, helped plan their very special Disney date. That beautiful lantern scene? It came from the mind of her personal 'Mr. Happily Ever After' (Of course you’ll have to read the book to find out just how swoony that is).

  • Her aunt Cindy and uncle Darryl Powlison served as that first spark of inspiration for Liam and Jennifer’s story. Melissa shares that her aunt was actually friends with her uncle’s first wife, who—like Rebecca—died young of cancer. The biggest reason, though, that this story is for them is because she first recognized true love when she saw the way they looked at each other. Even as a child, she could see how pure and full their hearts were for each other, and they kept that love burning bright as a beacon of hope and faith, even amid the darkness of the liver disease that would eventually take him. They never stopped celebrating their love, never stopped appreciating each other, never stopped believing in God or His plan.

Could his little girl be the messenger of God's love?

Before death carried her away, Rebecca James asked her seven-year-old daughter, Molly Sue, to help her grieving father find happiness again. Now, nearly a year later, armed with her mother’s memory and a determination to find her father’s smile again, this little girl will move big mountains to make sure her plan goes off without a hitch.

When cancer claimed his beloved wife far too soon, Liam James stopped living and started settling. But thanks to the still small light left in his world, his life is about to expand in ways he can't fathom. Could his young daughter really be the answer to the prayer he hadn’t dared to speak? And will the happy-go-lucky Sunday school teacher Molly Sue hand-picks to be her new mommy agree to work through their pain in order to bring about new joy for all of them?
